Bridging the Gap Between Homelessness and Healthcare with Project Lux
The Love Button Foundation recently collaborated with Project Lux, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on bridging the gap between homelessness and healthcare. Project Lux achieves this by helping individuals access health insurance and meet essential health needs through their numerous state-wide chapters. The organization actively visits shelters and clinics, enrolling homeless individuals in programs such as Medi-Cal, and addressing various healthcare needs.
At UC Berkeley, Project Lux works closely with local clinics to host health insurance enrollment fairs and provides a health insurance class for university students. Through this collaboration, students at the free clinic distributed Love Buttons to patients and assisted in enrolling individuals in health insurance, guiding them through their healthcare needs, and sharing resources for health and wellness.
Jonanne Talebloo and Ishita Srivastava, co-president of Project Lux, played a crucial role in facilitating this collaboration with the Love Button Foundation. They are dedicated to expanding their efforts and deepening the impact of their work. Leveraging the resources and support from both organizations, Jonanne and Ishita aim to reach more individuals in need, ensuring access to health insurance and effective utilization. Their commitment includes organizing more community events, increasing volunteer participation, and developing new programs to address the specific needs of the homeless population. Both leaders are devoted to fostering a compassionate community where everyone has the opportunity to achieve better health outcomes.
Jonanne Talebloo has been a Love Button Youth Ambassador for the past few years, dedicated to spreading the Love Button mission through community service initiatives and awareness campaigns. She is the co-president of the UC Berkeley Project Lux Chapter and has been serving as the internal vice president for Project Lux Nonprofit. Her role as a Love Button Ambassador has empowered her to commit to positive change. Jonanne is excited to bring the values of the Love Button movement to Berkeley, fostering a campus culture of compassion and support. She is grateful to the Love Button Foundation for their support and looks forward to making a meaningful impact at UC Berkeley and beyond.
Ishita Srivastava is the co-president of the UC Berkeley Project Lux Chapter and has been serving as the external vice president for Project Lux Nonprofit. She is extremely proud to be an advocate of the Love Button Global Movement and hopes to further its mission by continuing to catalyze positive change through shared acts of kindness. Her role has empowered her to engage with diverse communities, promote mental health awareness, and organize initiatives that foster empathy and connection. Ishita’s leadership has not only strengthened her commitment to service but also inspired those around her to contribute to creating a more compassionate world. By leveraging her platform, she aims to amplify the impact of these organizations and drive meaningful progress in the realms of community support
